Haircutting and Styling Techniques

One of the main focuses of a hairdressing academy curriculum is teaching students the latest haircutting and styling techniques. This would include learning how to use different types of equipment such as scissors and razors, as well as how to create different styles and textures using various tools and products. Students will also learn about different hair types and how to work with them to achieve a particular desired look. Hands-on practice is a key component, as students will work on block heads and/or real clients, should you choose to bring a model with you.

Hair Colouring

On a colour course as an example, the curriculum will of course cover the very latest trends and techniques within the world of colour, including what we see most of our guests currently requesting at the time of the course. This includes learning about different types of hair tint and how to apply them. Students will also learn about the potential risks and side effects of these treatments, as well as how to properly care for and maintain coloured hair. As with haircutting and styling, hands-on practice is a crucial part of this portion of the curriculum, and we recommend a live model for best results on real hair. Please note patch testing will be required for this course at least 48 hours prior to the course start date.

Client Consultation and Communication Skills

A key aspect of a hairdressing professionally is developing strong client consultation and communication skills. Students will learn how to effectively communicate with clients to understand their desired look and provide the very best recommendations based on their hair type and face shape and skin tone. This includes learning how to ask open-ended questions, actively listen to clients, and provide clear and concise instructions. Students will also learn how to manage client expectations and handle difficult situations, such as when a client is unhappy with their haircut or colour. These skills are essential for building a successful career and clientele in the hairdressing industry.

Practical Experience through Hands-On Training

In addition to theoretic learning, the MAJOR Academy curriculum will also provide students with practical experience through hands-on practical workshops & masterclasses. This allows students to apply the skills they have learned in a real-world setting and gain valuable experience, whilst still having the option to lean on your educator for advice. Students will have the opportunity to work in a salon environment, under the guidance of experienced professionals, and learn how to provide a range of hair services, including cutting, colouring, and styling. This practical experience is essential for building confidence and developing the skills needed to succeed in the industry.
